Before I started jumping Shadow, I was warming him up - obviously. The saddle I was riding in was so uncomfortable so I ditched the stirrups as it made it more comfortable.
Also, I never wear a hat, unless I'm jumping or going out on the roads for a long hack. Not the "best" photograph, but I love Shadow in this, he never used to have such a beautiful outline, now he does due to the schooling. n_n
You should see me on my youngest sister's 12"1, any smaller and I'd need some rollerblades!
Haven't competed in so long. My family went very off the rails - o-natural and decided to ditch the bits (if you take a close look at the bridle, you'll see that Shadow has no metal bit in his mouth) and also barefoot (eg. no metal shoes). So I've spent two years bringing on the ten or so horses we have. By "bringing on" I mean, their feet needed to change and adjust which takes time and also reeducated them to use their bodies properly (as with a bit they rely on it more but without you have less control therefore need to have a better relationship with the horse).
Never did a huge amount of competing, got stuck into hunting and then team chasing... but did love what little competing I did do. Used to load up 3 ponies for a comp, then try and put together as many combinations and classes so I could ride as many times as possible! You'd often see me jumping off one pony, onto another to rush into the next class haha xD
O_O uhm, kind of out talked myself here... *scuttles away*
hmmm interesting .....i get the feeing one is quite dedicated...ive not heard of this before but it makes good sense ..riding is all about a connection and communication with a wild animal at the end of the day....
reading that twice you have a great contradiction in there......'never did a huge amount of competing' and then you describe taking three ponies to events.... ..modesty me thinks
Ooooooooooohhh, I did muck up there! I guess what I meant really was, it was just having a great time and if I won anything then that was an added bonus. A few of my friends in Scotland have taken it on much more seriously, so I suppose when you asked I had that in mind. You know, serious eventing etc xD
Haha, yeah quite dedicated - tend to get really focused and stuck into something.
The whole barefoot, bitless thing isn't too big over here, it's much bigger in the US and also AUS. Can't begin to tell you the looks we used to get when out hunting. People would go "You've lost a shoe..." then "Oh, you've lost two shoes..." and then get very confused when they realised there were none whatsoever!
i was brought up riding horses...pony club until a young girl that went to pony club with came up to me at school when in was 16 infront of all my mates and asked me if i was going to pony club that night....that kinda ended it...
i intend to start riding again in the near future though...moving home will help...
^_^ I've gotta say, that had me giggling a lot. Classic!
I did that too, but kind of got bored of it half way through senior camp and just ditched it. Far more fun jumping on whatever horse and jumping, riding etc at home. Plus, no hat!!
Bet you'll have fun getting back into it Do you still have horses around?
bet you scare your poor mother to death....my mother has horses she races (not in a jockey kinda way) point to pointers..and my sister and her two daughters also have horses...so i have oportunties...
